Speaking from the White House less than an hour ago, President Obama announced that the Iraq War is coming to an end. After nine years, American soldiers will finally return home –just in time for the holidays. Only United States troops who will guard the American Embassy will remain overseas after New Years Eve. According to the President,
After nine years, America’s war in Iraq will be over. As we mark this important milestone, we’re moving into a new phase in our relationship between the United States and Iraq. As of January 1, and in keeping with our strategic framework agreement with Iraq, it will be a normal relationship between two sovereign nations.
The President made the announcement via live video stream on WhiteHouse.gov/live. Stay tuned for the recorded video, which I will post it as soon as it is available online.
